Italy’s Building Code lists — on a non-exhaustive basis — the building works that can be carried out without prior or subsequent notification to the public administration, provided they respect the anti-seismic, safety, health-and-hygiene, hydrogeological and fire-prevention rules that must be observed under building legislation.
These works are broadly grouped into the following categories:
- Ordinary maintenance (such as installing heat pumps up to 12 kW).
- Works to remove architectural barriers, provided they don’t alter the building’s outline or involve new structures or the installation of lifts.
- Earth-moving as part of farming activities, and seasonal removable greenhouses without masonry works.
- External paving, water-collection tanks, covered pits.
- Installation of solar or photovoltaic panels (within the applicable limits).
